If I haven't used Skype on the iPhone for a while but have been chatting on the desktop computer, it takes ages to download all the chat history when I turn Skype on on the iPhone. I can't find anything in settings, is there a way to stop it downloading the history? I don't need to see my history on the iPhone!

The regular roaming rates are outrageous, so the only way it would be economically feasible to still use the phone is using VOIP. I'm also concerned about how to use txt messaging and checking voicemail using a VOIP system. I would wait to get one until I'm done here (which won't be for a few years), but if I don't get one now, i'll end up getting an iPod Touch, which would be worthless if I eventually made an iPhone purchase. Why does my iphone 3gs skype app freeze on the signing in? I recently updated my skype app and the same day also jailbreak my iphone 3GS 3.1.3 using the new spirit download. Everything seems to work fine but now my skype app freezes on signing in and wont go further than that.....if I delete the app then reinstall it works for a while but happens again. What stops Apple from making a deal with Skype? I know apple has a deal with AT&T, BUT... my question is about the business aspect. Wouldn't selling hundreds of millions of iphones trump the money they would get if they just opened up the platform to skype? Imagine, Apple sells the iPhone and you put skype on it and go worldwide VOIP. The basics are there already. In effect, Apple would be selling a mini computer with operating system (which is exactly what it is anyway) and everyone would be able to use it as a phone. Skype would be super rich and Apple wouldn't be able to make the phones fast enough. AT&T and other telecoms who own the towers and satellites could simply change the focus of their business to data transfer. WI-MAX is coming soon! It fits together. So what is the holdup?... What am I missing?... or What is their problem?... I mean, wouldn't a deal with Skype and being open make more money than just these deals with telecoms in each country?

I am deploying to the United Arab Eremites and the plan is to use skype on my iphone and i was wondering if i have a local Chicago number will i have free incoming calls as long as i am paying the $3 a month subscription... i know it will cost me $0.27 a minute to call home but i plan on texting people threw a free wifi based sms program.. so really all i wanna know is will i get free incoming calls from the US even though i will be in the UAE

What is the best phone to use for Skype? I am currently using the Skype software to make free calls with other Skype users in Asia. I am currently using the Clearsky TRENDnet bluetooth wireless phone, which I can only use within a certain area from my laptop. I would like to find a phone (whether a cellphone, or wi-fi phone) that allows me to use Skype anywhere in the world, with same speed as on PC. The only problem I have noticed with Wi-Fi phones is that if there is no wi-fi available in the area...I still have to plug into my laptop to use...is this correct? =[ I've also noticed that cell phones with so called internet browser are very slow, and impossible to download a software, much less use it seamlessly. However, the iphone interests me...but I do not know if it (unlocked iphone) can be used in Asia? Are there ANY phones that can do it all? Any help would be great! iPhone Calling? Hey Guys! I am looking into purchasing an iPhone and have a few questions about calling. First of all I don't plan on using AT&T's $800.00 a year service, I am going to jailbreak my iPhone before getting the 2 year contract. I am planning to use IM+ with SkypeOut to call people. I have a question on how to receive calls. If I get an online number from skype, because I assume that I don't get a number without AT&T service, will people be able to call me? I assume that I would have to IM+ constantly running. Please help with any way to receive calls. Thanks

I want to buy an iPhone-like device but without the 'voice' plan subscription? I cannot locate a small digital device like the iPhone that includes both Wi-Fi and broadband cellular internet radios or a slot for a broadband modem..such as is available for laptops. For phone capability without a voice plan subscription I would use , for example, Skype. But I cannot find such a device...for example the Nokia 810 internet tablet has no broadband radio. The iPhone is very satisfactory but requires a 2 year voice plan subscription ...which annoys me. The only solution I see to avoiding the requirement of a voice plan by a cellular network operator is to adapt a broadband modem to a small device. But a software driver for the modem then must be available for whatever OS the small internet device uses. Help!

No sound in calls with iPhone 3G...? I have a iPhone 3G (UK - 02, not jailbroken) and I just noticed that when I recieve a call, or make a call I cant hear anything. Callers are still able to hear me. I have tried the following remedies: 1) Checked that volume is up and mute switch isnt on 2) Checked for dust in headphone socket and tried using the headphones. 3) Tried switching phone off and on 4) Tried reset (Holding on off switch and home key) And Finally, I tried backing up the phone and doing a restore from iTunes, still no luck. I can hear music, hear ringtones, text alerts, even use the Truphone application to make phone calls oveer truphone and skype. People can hear me ok on these apps. But the actual phone itself has no sound in calls. One thing I noticed before I discovered this problem was when I switched the phone back on on a lunch break at work, I got the 'connect to iTunes to activate' screen. This has done this before, but when I switched the phone back on again, it was activated ok without the need to connect to iTunes. I think I'll have to admit, I may need a replacement phone..but if anyone has resolved these similar issues has any advice, that would be great! Thanks! Are these mini laptop computers / palmtops with 3G capability the next big thing? What will replace the iPhone? What's then next big thing for portable communication? I don't know about you, but I prefer typing on a larger keykboard rather than on my iPhone, and want more computing power, a larger screen, but still want to be able to connect anywhere, anytime. Are mini laptops the answer. They've been around for a while...I knew a guy with a palm top computer in the late 90s, but they are a lot more powerful now. What do you like? What's next? Can you make a phone call somehow using these mini laptops? Or would you have to use something like skype and your friend would have to have a laptop, too? Or could you call someone's phone? Basically, I think the iPhone is too limiting, and I don't know if the extreme portability is worth having to squint at a tiny screen. Or is there a touch screen mini laptop? What else is out there? Do you think Apple will come out with something new and completely different, or are they stuck in a rut with the iPod and the iPhone?

Is it possible to receive incoming calls on a virtual # on the iPhone via VoIP. Not going through any PSTN? When i receive a call to my toll free or any other virtual phone number i want it to be connected to my iphone via VoIP with a fixed number. right now i use VoIP for outgoing calls with fring skype and a SIP provider. I love the cheap rates but the incoming calls don't get transfered to phone. So i was wondering if i can just receive calls with another number in my area code or toll free and have it forward to my accounts. Any feedback on this would be great. If anyone has done anything like this before i would like to hear it.

When making a call on the Fring app on iPhone, does it cost money or minutes? There are three options to make a call : SIP, Skype out call, and Cellular call. Apparently it is only allowing me to click the Cellular call. So when I click this, does this use my minutes from my monthly plan or does it use VOIP and no minutes?

Blackberry vs Symbian vs Windows Mobile for professionals on-the-go? There are so many factors in choosing a mobile PDA solution but I guess my top 3 would be: 1. Orange Box issues (PC)? Okay so I installed the Orange box earlier this year and it slowly began to collect dust. I could run Half Life PERFECTLY and Portal Sub Par while Team Fortress it depended what time of day you asked me. I uninstalled it a few months ago and decided to reinstall it. Half life is running but i have really choppy images and i can see through walls and ish and i have done almost nothing differently. Same comp and everything. What I have done differently: I reinstalled windows a while back but that shouldnt matter because i bought the game right after i bought the computer so it should almost be a repeat of the situation I installed it on an external hard drive this time i have installed the Curse Client, Windows Live Messenger, Skype, and a Logitech QuickCam snce then, plus switched over my iphone and music from an old computer. Any ideas or anyone know any programs that caused them trouble with this? Tried to install on computer without External Hard Drive, got nothing. Still seeing through walls Any suggestions?

I have been following the iPhone and G1 hype all year long and I feel that they both have their advantages and disadvantages. What is the best portable device to access the online forums, check emails, open attachments (zips, images)? Im looking for an portable internet device that can help me stay online all the time on msn/skype and allow me to surf the internet and post my private phpbb forum.
