Questions about VOIP Providers, Service, Quality, & Tech Questions? I'm considering changing my regular home phone service (phone co.) to Cable Telephone (Comcast) or possibly a VoiP service like Skype or Sunrocket. Comcast says a big advantage of their service is the battery backup which keeps the service available for 8 hours if power goes out. Otherwise I think it's just the same as having the regular phone service - no special phones, all extentions work, etc. Skype & Sunrocket are a LOT cheaper, but are they better? Worse? Some questions about VOIP services before I take the plunge: With VoiP will I totally lose phone service if my power or my internet connection goes out? Even though we have cable internet, sometimes it is really, really slow. How would that affect a VoiP phone service like Skype? I'm sure you'd lose service if power fails, or if your computer or modem craps out. Has this been a problem for you? Do all your existing extentions work? Is sound quality great? Other advantges or disadvantages? THANKS!!

VoIP service providers? I'm looking for an unlimited plan for a small business, I work from home as a call center agent and I don't want to run into an issue with a company freaking out if I go with a residential plan. I am also hoping to find a plan that includes unlimited calls to Europe. Any suggestions on a company that has good rates and excellent sound quality would be apprciated. I have read people who used their phone alot had the company contact them and accuse them of using a residential line for business purposes, even if they weren't. One man said that his kids were on the phone pretty much 24-7 and they started billing him all these extra charges when he had unlimited calling.... I don't want to run into that myself.
Can I use IP phones on my internal network without VOIP service? I need a pbx style phone system in my business but I dont have the funds for a traditional system. I have a wired/wireless ethernet system already installed throughout my business and was wondering if there was a way to use IP phones through the network internally without an outside VOIP service provider?

How to make fax machine work after switched from hardline phone to a VOIP phone service? After I switched from AT&T hardline phone (PSTN) to iTalkBB Internet phone (VOIP) service, my same voice phone works just fine while my same fax machine does not. My Internet Service Provider (ISP) is Road Runner – a Time Warner Cable division. They give me a Motorola cable modem with one Ethernet port (RJ45) which I used for my D-Link router. All my two computers and two VOIP boxes, one for phone and one for fax with different phone number, are behind the router. According to my VOIP provider’s advice, I've tried to slow down transmission speed (on fax machine) from the default 33.6 (mbps) to 9600 baud and turned off ECM. So far I can send out faxes to some numbers but not all numbers, and could not receive any fax including the very fax machine that received my fax. My VOIP provider then suggested me to hook up the VOIP box directly to the cable modem so it has its own internet connection. I tried that by taking off the router from the cable modem and just plug in the fax VOIP box to the cable modem. It dose not work – did not even get the dial tong – either with regular patch cable or a crossover cable. Time Warner Cable told me that they do have two port cable modem but only give to me when I subscript to their digital phone (VOIP). However, their price is 8 times higher than iTalkBB ($40 vs $5 per month). I tried to find a cable modem with more than one Ethernet port. I could not find any in three major electronic stores as Best Buy, Circuit City, and Micro Center. I am now thinking to roll back my fax line to AT&T for a basic plan cost $15+tax=$20 per month. That way I will be sure it works – it’s a hardline. Somebody on Iinternet advised me to wait for the undergoing Fax Over Internet Protocol (FOIP). But I don’t know where this baby is – if any. On the other side of the story, somebody on Internet stated that he switched to VOIP, and his fax machine works flawlessly ever since for a year so far. My line condition is no comparison to his, but I did make some improvement – half way so far. Is there anybody has a clue or suggestions please help me out. Many thanks!

Can anyone find a firm that offers local VOIP numbers in Ukraine? I have relatives in Ukraine ad calling is expensive. In many countries you can get a local phone number through a VOIP service provider and call international just like calling locally. I would love to get a number for Sevastopol, but almost any city VOIP number is likely to be less expensive than calling direct. Thanks!
VOIP service provider? I am comparing Sunrocket, Packet8 and VOIP.com. Which of these is good. Does any of these works if I get a VOIP phone installed in India ?

VOIP Phone Service: Best Provider? I was a Sunrocket subscriber. Now that they're out of business I'd like to find another provider of VOIP service. Any suggestions? I certainly don't want a company that's going to drop their customers like Sunrocket did. I understand Teleblend is owned by the former Sunrocket company so I definitely don't want them.

About Vonage VoIP service security? I have heard some real good things about the new phone service Vonage and I am planning to swtich my phone service to them. But I am more concerned about the security of this phone service as it's a voice over Protocol Serive. I wold like to know "if it is Secure enough to switch over to Vonage? Is there any way that this Voip service can be hacked? or Should I stay with my regular phone service provider?"
Can anyone recommend a VoIP software which I can use in my speech lab class using headsets on the computers? I would really want to use a software wherein I would be able to set up my own server and configure it in a class. I would also prefer freeware or service providers to provide simple but quality VoIP services. I'm planning just to have a voice chat connection with my student's computers in order to check them during our speech lab sessions. Thank you very much. Does anyone know a VoIP software capable on LAN? My class uses LAN. Thank you again!
